narrative>> for the voronoi sur-face teamed up with marcelo bernal to design and fabricate a double curvature membrane for the patio of the award winning architecture department at the sant maria university. the confection patterns for the membrane were based on a voronoi operation that starts with a random distribution of points on the surface and through expansion establishes the boundaries between them. two of these polygons were materialized as transparent elements with monolithic polycarbonate. although unorthodox in terms of the relationship between the stresses and the warp and weft of the membrane, the surface was successfully tensioned, transforming the patio into a zone for informal working and meeting.
